I'm trying to add a windows server(2008) to Orion, but I get the error: "Timeout occurred while long operation. retry last operation again please."
I want to know is it firewall or permissions related? why is it hapening
Can you successfully add this device via SNMP or ICMP? Firewalls could well be the problem here, but it's hard to pin down whether the issue is with WMI ports, or if it's something more basic (EVERYTHING is being blocked between your management network and the network segment your monitored device resides on.
Another thing to consider is using the SolarWinds Agent to poll these devices. You get the added benefit of QoS information on the nodes as well as only having to worry about a single port for communications (TCP 17778 from remote device to poller for agents configured for agent initiated communications, and 17790 for agents configured for server initiated agent communications).
To add to what silverbacksays,
Go through the steps in this KB. The wbem test tool is great for troubleshooting stuff like this.

Theys see the permissions, I think you to user permission check solver this and port see What protocol and port number is used for WMI monitoring?
my issue was solved, it was a windows related problem. I had to change the Remote UAC LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy registry setting
