Unplugged Feature

What is the differnece between setting an interface as "unplugged" and not managing that interface. In both cases you dont get any statistics on the interface. When I first heard of this new feature I thought that I woudl get stats on the interface but I would just not get an alert when the interface went up or down. But I dont seem to get any stats at all once the interface is upplugged status.

I looked at this again, this is my screwup, the interfaces are operating as they are supposed. For some reason I thought that once you put them in unplgged mode the unplugged icon would always be there. but actually when the interface is in unplugged mode and the interfaceis up. it shows as "up." not unplugged. Now it makes perfect sense..

Unmanaging an interface is meant more towards maintanance windows, whereas unplugged is meant more towards user ports that will be going up and down without any rhyme or reason, for example, a user shutting down their laptop at the end of the day and going home. You are monitoring that port, but don't want to get alerts when they shutdown and go home.

So what stats would you expect to gather when an interface/port is in unplugged status?

I would like to monitor switch interfaces, sometimes workstations are deployed that have been set manually for 100/full speed/duplex, when they should be set to auto/auto. This misconfiguration can produce errors and later complaints of slow performce. If the interface stats were kept I could see the errors and act. But I don't want to get an alert when the workstation is shutdown.

So what are you seeing in the product? This behavior is what you should be seeing. If laptop is online the switch port is up and we are gathering stats around it. User shuts down and goes home and is now down, but we show the port as unplugged rather than down so we do not send alerts etc.

Any interface that is unplugged, I dont get any interface stats on.. so what I am seeing is abnormal then right? I should see stats on my switchport interface even though it is configured as unplugged.
