SNMPv3 and SNMPv2c

Hey all,

I have just installed Solarwinds Orion NPM 9.5. When I am adding nodes using SNMPv3 there are added in the unknown group with no interfaces added for monitoring.

But when I add the node using SNMPv2c the devices are added automatically in Cisco group with interfaces and other information also added automatically. How to do the same in SNMPv3 ? and also how to monitor different MIBs through SNMPv3 for Cisco devices.

It sounds like we are not able to communicate via SNMPv3 properly. Can you test and confirm you have SNMP properly configured on the device?

If you want to poll other SNMP information other than what we poll out of the box, you can use the Universal Device Poller to poll any SNMP enabled value.

Below is the configuration I did on Cisco 4507R Switch and Cisco 3825 Router.

snmp-server ifindex persist
snmp-server view ADMIN_VIEW iso included
snmp-server group ADMIN_GROUP v3 priv read ADMIN_VIEW write ADMIN_VIEW
snmp-server user ADMIN_NMS_USER NORMAL v3 auth sha DIBL@NMS priv des56 TEST123
snmp-server enable traps snmp linkup linkdown
snmp-server host 172.20.10.8 traps version 3 priv ADMIN_NMS_USER

When I enable SNMPv2c on the device, NPM auto discovers Cisco as the vendor and then presents the option to select and monitor interfaces. But with SNMPv3 this is not happening. The device is added as unknown.

After a system restart, the NPM is able to categorize SNMPv3 devices in Cisco and also identify the machine type but it cannot show interfaces and CPU / Memory Load which is automatically added when using SNMPv2c
