Orion monitoring Mac OS X

Has anyone tried to monitor mac os x machines using Orion. At present I am only able to see wether the units are up or down but would like to interrogate the mac's more ie disk usage etc.

Anyone any idea how I can get this information??

You have to enable SNMPD on your OSX machine. I can't recall where it is at the moment, i think Server Admin.

What I am curious about is seeing CPU usage, what daemons are running and responding.

In regards to OSX monitoring, has anyone had the issue where when you enable monitoring of an OSX Xserver, the CPU on the xserve immediately spikes to 100% and does not come down?

Yep having the same issue here on our XServs, tried all sorts of things but the CPU just maxes out which isn't good for our users. Still trying to find out why.

I believe 5.0.9 is the version you'll have to run.

I tried 5.0.9 and the newest version on net-snmp website. The CPU still spikes to 100% no matter what. Anyone have any insight on how to fix this?

I'm having this problem as well: anytime I try to poll volume monitoring from Orion, the snmpd process on my OS X machine spikes up to 100% CPU usage and has to be killed.

Has anyone had any luck with this? Compiliing the latest version of net-snmp doesn't seem to help.

The workaround for this problem is to run monitoring scripts that act as custom MIBs ... see here for a few. Polling these won't make it freak out.
