Alerts Stopped Functioning & Other items..

Version: Orion 7.3
(I've reported this to support but through I'd post here to see if anyone could advise on this as well.)

We installed a dedicated server for Orion a few days ago. We went through the install and added all of our devices and the system is ticking on.

Yesterday we noticed that CPU stats stopped being collected on all our Windows NT/2000/2003 servers, restarting from the system manager got the ball rolling again. (Anyone had this problem before?)

What's more baffeling is that alerts have stopped functioning. I add an alert e.g. change of cpu utilisation, and set the alert to be anything at all the alert will show in the alert window in orion system manager, but will not be sent out to our support staff, have tried e-mail , net send, writing to a file, etc .. none work.

Looking throughthe SQL DB I see that everything looks good the polling engine is correct, the smtp server is correct and functioning as per normal, but no alerts are seen. (Has anyone see this before?)

Just thought I'd ask and see.
(I see 7.4 is out. I might take a look at that as well.)

I've got the same issue, but with response time recording. CPU on the poller dips a little once response times stop. Naturally, a restart fixes it up, but it's hard to tell what causes it to begin with.

It can take any number of days to occurr, so running a mega debug file is a significant inconvenience.

If you moved the Netperfmon Polling Engine to a different server then have a look at this:

Make sure you set the return address in the alert to a valid email address. Setting the return to an unknown email address (joe@nobody.com) caused our alerts to stop working...

Yeah rebooting did fix the problem, however it shouldn't happen. E-mailing support they are responsive in replying but I get the feeling it's all care not responsibility

Strange thing is that MRTG didn't drop a beat on the same box looking at the same CPU, and Memory data.

At the moment I am rebooting the box every 48 hours, and do hope that SolarWinds development will continue look into this issue.

My alerts stopped functioning yesterday for the first time.
I could telnet to port 25 of the mail server, but when testing alerts, none where being received, not even Windows Net message popups. I checked the running processes and found "OrionAlertEngine.exe". I could not stop this process, but was able to use the M$ 'kill' utility to end the PID. Once I did that, all alerts bottled up for the past 14 hours came flooding in on both e-mail and messenger popups. I'm still running 7.2.2, and this is only the first time, so I'm still hanging in there until there is a worthwhile release with new features.
