This one is pretty significant but something that we are looking for. Not sure if its something SW is interested in adding or we should go ahead and start working on it.
Very brief and basic description. Much more detailed info available.
1. Looking to pull CAM tables from switches.
2. Need a database on the back-end to store switch port to Room, Comm. Location, Data jack correlations.
3. Need DB and functions on the backend to store inventory entries. This MAC addr. is this machine, with these attributes, and was seen on these ports (which actually means room#/Comm Location/DataJack) at these times. (based on a user selectable polling interval)
4. Need nice front-end for management.
5. Need nice front-end for "operator/user" access.
-Would also like features to put in a MAC to watch out for and alert if it is seen.
-Might want features to manipulate the description fields of our switches based on a template to match the DB. (description EdgePort--<Building>-<Room#><CommLoc>-<DataOutlet>)
-Need easy data entry / import to push in data.
-Need user customizable fields.
-Need easy ways to update the inventory when a MAC changes on a machine. (card swap, etc.)
-Need search features
-Error checking (sort of) to say "I know about these switches, but I don't have room/commloc/data outlet correlation info for it in my DB."
-Reports
-etc... lot's more possibilities.
