Debunking SolarWinds myths!?!

I've been doing research for a client and want to recommend the SolarWinds package, with add-ons, but there are a couple of persistant myths regarding SolarWinds that I would like cleared up before I make my recommendation.

Myth #1

Orion does not support clustered servers. Period.

Myth #2

VMWare instances cannot be monitored with only the hardware hosting the instances being monitored

Myth #3

Multiple interface routers (especially serial interfaces) cannot be monitored. [I'm pretty sure I know that answer here, but thought I'd post it just in case]

Interesting topic.

Myth 1: Not sure what you mean by that. Orion can easily use a Clustered SQL backend for the database. Orion can monitor individual nodes in a cluster provided they are reachable.

Myth2: VMWare servers can be monitored provided they are IP'ed and have an SNMP agent running on them. It may be that the SNMP agent reports only the physical system stats, but we can't control that.

Myth 3: That's a new one on me. Serial, Ethernet, Vlans, Trunked, if they show in the IfTable Orion will monitor them

Excellent. Thanks for the super-prompt answer.

Just out of curiousity, do you know if Orion is going to be able to support VMWare ESX? We are thinking of setting up a couple of those servers in-house. After reviewing the SW offerings (especially the change management system -- that's incredible!) I'd like to bring that in house as well as doing the install at the client.

We can support ESX today because it uses net-SNMP. However, ESX hides most of its memory from net-snmp. So in Orion 9, we will improve ESX coverage even more.

we will recognize ESX instead of net-snmp out of the box and label it as VMware
We will also properly gather and report on the memory for and CPU for ESX
