I've got a bunch of devices that have not had their SNMP name, location, or contact changed from device default. I've got a summer coop going into devices to update these. The coop is also changing the community.
What is the proper procedure to get the node to reflect the new properties. If I press the "Rediscover" button it DOES NOT COMPLAIN that its using the wrong community. It says "Discovery successfuly completed" in green. If I press "poll now", it says is successfuly completed, yet its using the wrong community. When I press "List Resources", it finally tells me I have an SNMP problem.
Surely that's not as intended?
If I DID NOT change community, would the rediscover update the name, location, and contact info automatically?
Is there a procedure to get the node name to match the new SNMP device name? After fixing everything else, the node name is still "Unknown"
You have a tool for updating these parameters from a GUI. You should make that tool free or include it with your Orion products. It should be alot easier to fix SNMP device information for screwed up nodes.
