Polling single IP interface traffic

Question. I have a server with several IPs on it and I'd like to monitor traffic for just one of the IPs thru Orion. Is it possible that when I added the node via the IP that it will only see traffic for that particular IP or will it be capturing stats from all traffic on that interface/nic?

When you add a node to be monitored by Orion you can use virtually any IP Address. The goal is to communicate to the node through SNMP and ICMP. Once you can communicate to the node through SNMP Orion queries the node about a host of different statistics, CPU, memory, NICs, volumes, etc. Select which NICs you want to monitor and you will be off and running. We are talking Orion here? Right?

The IP that you use in Orion to monitor a node does not limit the monitoring to only traffic by that IP. Once you connect to the node via SNMP with any IP on the node you will have options to monitor the individual interfaces or NICs. But you will be monitoring all traffic accross that interface or NIC.

Yes, we're talking Orion. However, it just isn't clear cut on if I need to make the changes within Orion or set up something virtually (IPs) on the server.

Once you add the node to NPM, you can select the interfaces you want to see traffic on. Just like monitoring serial and or ethernet ports on a router. You can see traffic rates, errors, interface details.

when you add these IPs then the interface you want to select is the MS TCP Interface.

then all the information you see will be only for that IP.

You should have a node for the physical server that monitors the actual NICs that you can get cumalative info from.
