Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
software recommendation

My company is providing setup service for clients that are establishing their connection over frame-relay with isdn or dial-up backup links. In near future we would like to monitor these locations for the additional service for our clients over isdn or dialup links. We have to make a decision on a solarwind product that will be suitable for our needs. We need a product up to 100 object license for now.
What are your recommendations?

If you can, monitor with either via the loopback or Ethernet interface, such that you don't lose monitoring when a link failure happens.

I need to access my cisco routers via isdn or dialup lines so I need to know what product will serve my needs for monitoring my locations.

Are the connections going to be periodic, or nailed up?

The connections are going to be dialed-up

To be clear...periodic is the occassional dialup to a site...nailed-up is the constant connection to a site.
If you're looking at a nailed-up type of scenario, then any of the SW products should be fine, especially since they're geared towards this kind of connectivity.
If you're going to use a periodic dial, this could be tricky. On-Demand solutions can work, but there is a lag between seeing "interesting" traffic (which triggers the dial), and having an established connection. ISDN is nice since establishment is very quick. Analog, by comparison, is agonizingly slow and likely to not complete before SW times out on its query.
Granted, this doesn't account for any overlapping networks between multiple clients, which is best-suited to a reverse-NAT type of configuration.
I would suggest building out a test network to see if the product would suit your needs. The eval version is suitable for this task.

ok I'll try testing eval version first.
