Editing default ASP Pages
bob556
People,
I am currently deployinh Solarwinds orion. I can edit all the pages through customisation except for the mapview.asp page.
Now all I want to do is to provide a meaningful layout that when I go to a child map, ie a site I can have the layout similar to the main page.
I have noticed that I can edit everything to my liking except for the way a page is generated.
I do not seem to be making myself clear even to myself:
I create a site map, populate with nodes etc. All is well....
I then open up the WWW site. the front page with my overview map. I then click down to a child map and this is the layout I want to customise, however admin does not allow me to Manage the page layout of mapview.asp in this area.
Seems like a simple request but this is driving me nuts, help???
thanks in advance
Bob Hey

Hi Bob Hey,
It sounds as if you wish to make changes to one of the ASP files that has been encrypted by SW. The mapview.asp file and all the other ASP files that do magical things on the Orion web site are hidden from simple mortals so as to protect the intellectual property of SW.
So in a nutshell you're screwed. You can't make changes to the layout of that page. I hope this brings a little happiness to your day.
Be fantastic.
NOTE: You could just recreate a mapview page from scratch. But that would require you to reverse engineer Orion. Good luck with that.

Map maker will allow you to customize child maps.
We have a site map on our homepage. We have nodes and icons that lead to child maps, which are customizable in Orion Map Maker.
You just create links from an icon or node from the parent map to a child map (a map that you can make).
I've made some nice linked map structures (Parent-> Child -> Child -> Node/Device details) using Orion Map Maker, MS Paint, and Building Layout maps (used for background picture).
Look around in Orion Map Maker and see if you can alter things there.
Good luck.
