Which retention settings affect Availability reporting?

I need to create availability reports for both nodes and applications that cover time periods up to and including a year.

I am pretty sure that I will have to set the Daily Statistics Retention value in SAM Settings --> Data & Database Settings to 366 days in order to get a one year application availability report, correct?

However, I am not sure what value on the Polling Settings page controls availability data for nodes. Can anyone tell me? Thanks so much.

Hello patriot,

Same settings, the Daily Statistics Retention covers all parameters from your database, this includes availability, interface utilization, applications, volume usage, etc. You can refer on below article for more details about retention periods:

Thanks, but that reference actually does not really answer my question. One might assume that the node availability data is covered by the Detailed Statistics Retention setting on the Polling Settings page, but that is not actually stated. Additionally, there is a separate section for Interface Availability Retention, so it cannot be included Detailed Statistics section. Confusing and poorly documented. In any event, assuming that that Detailed, Hourly and Daily statistics section does indeed include the Node Availability data, I would assume that having the Daily value set to 365 will allow me to run a report that shows node availability stats for the last year.

Similarly, I would expect that the Daily Statistics retention setting on the Data & Database Settings page in SAM Settings would have to be set to 365 in order to get the same report for applications.

Can anyone at SolarWinds confirm that I am correct?

So just to try and clarify the documentation states for Detailed Statistics Retention it is for anything collected within a time frame shorter than one hour.. under the working assumption you are polling for Up/Down status more frequently than 1 hour then yes Availability will follow the schedule outlined.. also the 365 days is a rolling block so for example if you wanted to do availability for 2015 today you would not get anything in 2015 older than today's date... and for interfaces those are separate which is why there is a separate section detailing and controlling data retention for them...
