Scheduling Abilities

I did some searching within the forum and found several posts regarding scheduling. Has or will Solarwinds incorporate any type of advance scheduling with future releases of Orion?

I don't understand why Orion does not have a more versatile scheduling feature. Other products such as Webtrends (cost less) has the ability to schedule a monitoring on a device/node by use of a calendar (7 days cycle and 24 hours time period). It also has the ability (limited) to monitor service ports on a server.

I like the Orion product but I think it's lacking very crucial functionalities - i.e can't add MIBs manually, very limited scheduling. I think Solarwinds have been dragging their heels when it comes to Orion - there is no clear vision. I feel Solarwinds doesn't address the basic functionality of Orion. It's always quote "it will be in our future release...but no date".

Yes. You should be able to use Windows Task Scheduler to unmanage and remanage nodes in the next release.

Not sure what you're looking for here. You can use the custom MIB poller as long as you have the OID. There is no need to manually add it to the MIB database.

We welcome all opinions, positive or negative, so I hear you. I don't agree. I'd suggest that anyone who thinks we're ignoring Orion take a look at the release notes for 8.5.1. It lists *everything* we've done to the product since December of '06. It's a long list. Now it might feel like we're not doing enough because we really haven't addressed the features that interest you the most. One person's awesome feature is just plain worthless to the next person. We try to spread it around, but Orion's so broad that some of this seems unavoidable.

That's true. And it's intentional. Product managers who give dates for features that are far in the future are risking their long-term credibility. I'd rather that you be annoyed with me for being vague than that you ignore me because my promises are worthless.

We are actually going to do even more to Orion 2008 than we did in 2007, but it's still too early for a list of specific features or dates as these are still subject to change.
