Feature Request - Allow status of a node to be affected by custom pollers and APM results

Question

Currently, NPM seems to only change the status of a node based on interfaces status and ICMP responses.  Likewise, APM status changes based on component status.

I would like to suggest 3 things:

1: If a custom poller comes back with a specified response, then change the status.  For example, I have a custom poller that monitors the physical drive states in Dell servers.  The poller can return various states including online, rebuilding, etc.  If a drive is rebuilding during a poll, then the server is degraded and I would expect to see the node status as warning or something similar.

2: If an APM assigned to a node is down, then the node should either be at warning or down status.

3: As an action to an alert, it would be nice to be able to change the status of a node.

That is absolutely a piece of what I am referring to.  But not only a PSU (and not only hardware) goes down...  If you have a Print Server and the spooler service fails...  turn the node warning or down.  After all, a server isn't any good if the services it is running fail.

This is something we would find realy interesting, as if you have a PSU issue in a device its status isnt really green?  Would be great if you could change this status

Honestly, it would probably be nice if rollup status in general were more customizable.  In this specific request, it would probably be preferable to give both options.  In our environment, it is the actual node status more often then not that we would want to see change.  This is because most of the time if the APM that we are monitoring is down, then the server might as well be down as it is no longer serving its function.  However, there are some APMs that we have setup where this is not the case.

I think it would be beneficial to give two options basically.  If the APM is in warning, then what action should Orion take (if any) - Set/Change node status or Set/Change child stauts, and then the second piece being, what should the child status be changed to.  A similar option for if the APM is critical would be great.

On the pollers (and custom pollers) end it would be beneficial if we could set normal return values for the pollers and then change the node and child status similarly to what I have described in the APM section above.

Hopefully this clarifies our thoughts, but please let me know if you have other questions.

Next to our dependancies request, this request is probably the most important for us.
