SNMP on NT4
baystateis
We have just implemented NPM 7.1 All of our w2k/2003/nt4 servers have custom snmp community strings. the w2k/2003 boxes added with no problems. All of our NT4 Servers (8) are reporting the error "servername" does not respond to queries using "community string" Has anyone else experienced this. Thanks in advance.

We never had this issue and are able to monitor our NT4 boxes.
Maybe you can double check that the community string you use are identical in terms of upper/lower case (You probably already did so though).
Are all your NT4 boxes SP6a?
Did you Install the SNMP agents from the orion unsupported downloads website section?
These are basically the only 3 criterias that we had to ensure to be able to monitor our NT4 servers.
Hope it helps.

What I've noticed with monitoring NT server as opposed to 2000/2k3 is that after you update the SNMP service properties to allow SNMP packets from your Orion server, you have to restart the SNMP service on the NT server before adding the server into the Orion databse or else Orion will spit out the "servername does not respond to queries using "community string" message.
This is only true for NT servers.
Hope this helps.
