Hi,
New to NPM, and after having done numerous searches on here i'm a little confused as to weather or not the SQL server for NPM is best being physical or Virtual.
I am currently designing a new installation of NPM for my customer, and would like some clarification on a few items.
The instalation is likely to be monitoring 5000 network switches, 10000 wireless APs and another 8000 network uplinks. As such we will maintain a seperate DB server and additional pollers.
My customer would ideally like to run this all on a virtual infrastructure, however the admin guide documentation seems to indicate that it is preferred to have the SQL DB on a physical server.
My customers preference is for virtual though. With such a large Element base i'm a little worried about it being swamped..
I'm currently recommending that the server be spec'd with a quad core 3ghz processor, 12gb ram, 500gb disk, this spec will remain the same whether or not the server is virtual or Physical.
Also as well as standard polling i expect them to use the NPM as a syslog and SNMP trap server.
If we did go down the physical route, we would need a resilient solution, it would appear that a backup DB server can be configured by using the database manager. Page 335 in the admin guide. Does this backup database maintain full sync with the primary ? are other HA mechanisms recommended ?
Thanks
Dom
