Text Message Alerts

How are you handling text message alerts? Having a hard time finding information on sending alerts to a cell phone using orion.

Most cell phones have email addresses, you just have to find them.

For cingular, it's cell#@cingularme.com
For Verizon, it's cell#@vtext.com

I use those formats to send text messages to cell phones in my group.

Just be careful what you set as the 'From' name and email address, as long names don't look so good on a non-pda type cell phone.

Most cell phones have SMS addresses (come as a standard feature) and most phones can have an email address added. There is a difference.

We're using a really great tool from Zonith (Alarm Control System). Apart from being able to convert alarms to SMS or WAP PUSH, it also distributes the alarms to our IT-staff globally based on skills and geography. It can even handle escalations and acknowledgements although we aren't using that part of the product. I also think it can handle events from temperature and humidity sensors if you but the add-on.
