Split the Database into 3 separate databases

We have a poor performance with one of our maps when we try to open it will time out. One of the recommendations was to reduce the size of this map; also we were told that splitting the database will help to improve the performance. I want to know if anybody has split the database before. We need to know if this improved the performance.

Are you running Orion and SQL on the same server? If so, you will want to move SQL to its own server.

No we are not. The database is located in our SAN server and as per our internal process we can’t move it to the application server. That is why we want to know if splitting the database is recommended by SolarWinds we have talked with our Database department and they said that doing this will improve the performance of the site.

Putting your database on the same server as application will reduce performance. Firstly maps are located on the application Server so it’s really only a call to your \orion\maps Directory on the Server. It looks like you have some other issues here which could be causing the timeouts

Can you check permission on the b\inetpub\solarwinds and program files\solarwinds\orion Directories

Add the network Service and solarwinds_website accounts to these directories and grant the accounts Full control to here and sub directories
