Negative response times?

All,

Some of my devices are reporting negative response times which causes some of the graphs to look funny (they have gaps). If I look at a node, then change it to say a time frame of today, and 5 minute samples then look at the raw data I'll see a number of -2 entries and the corresponding graph looks strange.

Is that being caused because of different polling rates and the time frame being chosen, or the device is in fact having problems or Solarwinds just can't cope for some reason.. ?

Any insights?

Hi,

I have come across pings returning negative response times before. If I remember correctly it was caused by driver problems relating to AMD Opteron CPUs in our case.

I found the below text in another forum post at http://www.brianmadden.com /. This matches the symptoms we had although I don;t know what CPU's you use.

A -2 is Orion's internal way of storing No Response.

Ahhhhhh...

Hmmmmm, strange that I'm getting that much packet loss on some links or is Orion just being very picky?

Have you done a continuous ping from the Orion server to the devices in question just to verify this?

That was my next step.. Seems odd to me that I'd be dropping so many packets, my network runs great!

Did anyone find the solution to this problem? I'm experiancing the same kind of behaviour on our current platform. I'm running NPM version 9.5.0 at the moment On the dos prompt, i get simular results as seen in orion.
