We are implementing asset tracking, but we some devices which are not populating a model/serial#.
It's only a small percentage, but they are the same manufacturer (cisco) & model of ones that are.
Could this be a configuration issue on the device?
Have you considered an snmp walk to see if they are being picked up on another OID?
You can follow the steps in the article below and when running the test see if you get a value for the node not reporting a serial number. You can also do what Michael Kent suggested and do an SNMP walk using the OID in the KB article below.

If you have NCM, there are several inventory reports to be found within it; I suspect everything you hope for is present in one or more of them.

The simple root cause was that the store implementation team was not checking to pull hardware statistics for some stores.
