Switch Port Mapper in Orion
DannyMc
Is there a way for the Orion web interface to display the port to IP/MAC address information for a Cisco switch that is discovered in Switch Port Mapper?
I ask this because I have EE running on a PC in another building on my campus. I connect to this machine through VNC. Unfortunately there are instances where VNC will not allow connections and I have to driver over to the other building and reboot the PC.
I am also the only one with access to this machine. Through the Orion interface I would like for other members in IT to be able to view switch port information for a particular machine based upon IP address. What they really need to know is Switch, Switch Port, Port Speed and Port Duplex.
I'm open for other suggestions and/or products. BTW, FREE is the most powerful word in the dictionary if you get my drift.
Thanks,
Danny Mc?

We have some linux scripts using SNMP and putting information in custom fields in the solarwinds db that we use. Our interface details include client IP address and mac address, the ability to shutdown or enable the port, and a history of that port interface status.

As an alternative, there is a product called Kiwi Cattools (same company that produces Kiwi Syslog).
Cattools has a pre-packaged Port-MAC-ARP x-ref report that we use.
It also has 'last date/time' seen information which is handy.
The reports also have all the speed and duplex information.
There is a freeware version for a limited number of devices.

I too would also like to see this feature in Orion.

First off, there is an option in EE Port-Mapper to export the data to HTML.
You can either publish this to an Inetpub directory on the EE server if it's running IIS,
or copy/export the HTML to your Orion servers Inetpub directory.
What I've done is create a "Links" page on my Orion home page.
I created links using the "Raw Html" option or "Links" option (Limited to 10 links)
and display my Port maps for each switch, as well as the IP addresses in use from the
data collected from the EE server app - IP Address Management.
I've set the IP Address management data to publish to HTML every 5 minutes.
The Switch Port Map data would have to be rerun & exported to HTML manually when things change on the switch.
If you wanted to get really fancy, you could have the switch port map data link on the Node Details page of the switch. Or you could use MapMaker with a link to each switch port map page when you click on the switch.
