Cisco device Serial Number inventory

I just recently install the latest version of Orion NPM 9.5 and I need to be able to discover my cisco device serial. Do I need to create a SQL script to populate the information into report writer or can I turn a particular option to include the device serial information?

I wish there was a way to automatically discover serial numbers, but I haven't found it. NCM does this though. If you don't have NCM, you can create a custom poller for this OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.47.1.1.1.1.11. Then create a custom report in Report Writer. Try these fields to start with and then you can tweak from there.

Select Fields: Node ID, Node Name, Custom Node Poller Status

Filter Results: where PollerName is equal to "PollerName"

I raised a support ticket on a very similar problem and they provided me with the following SQL, we used it to create a view and then we use that for a Web Help Desk discovery to populate serials into our Asset DB.

I should stress, that you'll need NCM installed and configured...

ConfigMgmt is the (our) NCM database name, you'll have to replace it with the name of your NCM DB.
