Best Practices for new installation?

Question

We are beginning planing and allocation for a multi-site NPM/NTA installation. We'll be running 64-bit pollers with a seperate EOC, SQL is on our enterprise farm. Outside of the installation guide are there any recommendation from the community on tweaks and/or gotcha for the installation? My primary interest is configuring to ensure performance of collecting thousands of elements and multiple Netflow streams.
