Polling Interval

I am troubleshooting a networking issue where clients at a site located off of a T1 are experiencing issues with slowness during peak hours. Solarwinds depicts that usage stays around 10% - 15% throughout the day with these random spikes around 60% - 70%. I've had the carrier run stress tests against the T1 link and they haven't found anything. No errors are popping up on the interface. I have tried to reduce the polling interval from 10 minutes to 1 minute. It appears to work just fine, but when I pull open the data points into an excel spreadsheet, I am only getting data from the device every 10 minutes. Even though solarwinds says it is polling every 1 minute, it is only actually polling every 10.

Does anyone know why I am unable to poll at the 1 minute interval? Also, does anyone know what metric it is pulling every 10 minutes (5 minute average, 1 minute average, the exact amount of traffic coming through that interface at that moment... etc)? I am using a cisco router.

When you click on the Interface it should bring up the Interface Details page. On that page you should see a resource called Interface Polling Details that tells you what the current interval is.

I am guessing that the interval is still around 10 minutes? When you edit the chart, you are telling Solarwinds to show 1 minute interval data but as the polling interval isn't that quick, you are getting Null values (hence your 10 minute data points).

To modify the interval for this specific interface, locate the Interface Details resource on the page and click Edit Interface.

From the Edit Interface page, you can modify the polling interval.

When you pull up the graph that you use to export the data to Excel do you have the Sample Interval set to 1 minute?

Yes. When I click edit on the graph, the Sample Interval is set to 1 minute.

Have you have modified the statistics polling interval on the interface properties? I've had some users try to modify the statistics interval by editing the node properties and not the interface properties. Or did you do a global change in the polling settings?

From the home page of our solarwinds server, I navigate to the device, click on the interface we are monitoring, then hit the edit button on this graph to change the polling interval. Also, any ideas on how can I figure out which metric solarwinds is grabbing from the router?
