Everyone,
I have read several posts dating back to 2004 regarding the need to add nodes to Orion that are currently offline. In reading the different posts/replies, it doesn't appear as though this has been addressed by SolarWinds.
Currently, I have 1200 Nodes that I need to add to Orion that are currently offline. These Nodes are actually backup routers that only come online (via a modem) when the location's primary connection goes down. I have created a custom view which only shows these routers when they are online. This assists my NOC engineers in visually infoming them when a site is down AND that the backup router is now online. Currently, the only way I have found is to add them manually (one by one) via System Manager and ICMP only. This would suffice, although I would like to choose the SNMP option, but adding 1200 nodes one by one is painstakingly slow.
I have read other posts which suggest performing an SQL insert into the existing nodes table, but I am unsure of how to perform this task and am worried about potential database corruption.
So, has SolarWinds addressed this? Is an SQL insert into the Nodes table a viable solution? If so, how is this performed (I am no SQL guru)?
Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can offer.
