ESX server list not displaying any information

I'm monitoring several ESX servers and I don't get any information displayed in Orion.

I've read some manuals and topics and experimented somewhat with the ESX servers and came to the conclusion that it has something to do with the names of some listed servers. ( see picture )

How can I savely remove these entries from the database ?

which release of Orion are you using?

NPM 9.1 SP5.

in that case i'd recommend opening a support ticket.

i notice you have Linux in some Guest systems, does it only appear to be with those Linux OSes?

(all i have is Window OSes in VM and i don't find any issues with 9.1 SP5)

also, after you drill down into the VM, does the name look normal then?

I am not sure I completely understand your issue. Your first statement claims that you are seeing no information shown in Orion, so is the screenshot from somewhere else?

Make sure that the VMware MIBs are enabled on the servers you want to see data on, and that your ESX servers are version 3.5.

Which database do you want to remove the entries from? The VMware or Orion? On each poll cycle in Orion NPM, we completely update the database table VirtualMachines. Any VMs that have been moved from the ESX will be deleted and new ones added. If you are seeing entries in the VirtualMachines table that haved moved off the ESX server due to VMotion or another operation, and you are using ESX 3.5, please call support and reference this thwack thread.

Please let me know any points you could clarify and perhaps I can give more detail.

We've decided to monitor our Vmware ESX servers with Nagios instead of NPM.

I can give you some more information why this "server" is created.

We use EsXpress virtual backup to create backups of our virtual servers. ( check www.esxpress.com ).

This software creates a "dummy" server as a template or so which is the incredible user-un-friendly name you see in the screenshot ( _esXpress: peeesx02 Helper 01, esXpress v3.1, Free Mode, www.esxpress.com ). This naming is the issue of the problem.

I don't have an answer for your issue.

When version 9.1 was released with ESX monitoring I complained that the adminstrators need to be able to define which ESX servers were to be monitored. I documented that not all configured devices should be monitored.
ESX admins commonly have many templates, workstations, development, pre-production, etc. guests that never should be seen by operations or evaluated for SLA purposes.

If SolarWinds can fix the CPU reporting issue and allow ESX managers to define which guests to monitor the ESX package could be extremely helpful.
