Orion Website Error 8.5.1

Hi,

I am getting the following error message when I try to access my ONPM site from any PC on my network. I am using a host header of "Solarwinds" on my server as the default site is in use as a production site. Now if I remove the host header the site functions fine localy on the server. I am running version 8.5.1 as version 8.5 has several other issues related to plugins.

We get this message on Orion 8.5.1 (SP1), when trying to drill in to Application Monitor:

I have the same issue after upgrading from 8.5.0 to 8.5.1 with sp1. I also used host headers to differentiate my sites because I run several on the same server with a single IP. I have a separate thread on this but I thought to post what I've found here as well since we're essentially discussing the same problem, or so it appears.

I received a call from Chris regarding my ticket # this evening. He proceeded to grant everyone and everything full rights because he suspected the problem was permission related. I had to cut him short (and set my permissions back...thank god I paid attention to what he was doing) and leave but I picked back up on the troubleshooting myself tonight and found how to make it work and discovered why it does not work:

When you open IIS and select your Orion web site, click properties and within the Web Site tab under the description you can set the IP address or select "(All Unassigned)".

I originally suspected the host header that I was using to be the culprit so I gave my web server another IP address and used that for the Orion site. That didn't resolve the issue. I got the same error as when using a host header.

What I did next is the key. I took my production site and turned it off. Then, I cleared the host header value of my Orion site and set the IP address option on the Web Site tab to "(All Unassigned)" and it worked! I tried all kinds of combinations to service multiple websites but nothing worked for Orion except it not having host headers and it must have the IP address option set to "all unassigned". That's the only thing that would allow the site to work. It won't even work if you have a single IP address and set it to that instead of "all unassigned".

It would be nice to see Solarwinds acknowledge this issue and fix it ASAP because I've wasted more time than I'd like to admit messing with this. I even went so far as to ditch my database and start from scratch (I only had 3 months worth of data so it wasn't a big deal for me).

I'd like to hear from anyone that has Orion set to a specific IP or uses a host header value and is successfully using 8.5.1 sp1. Anyone???

Great Post!

I actually had to build out a new server to host the Solarwinds site to get around this issue. The folk working my case were really working at this issue from the wrong angle spending alot of time on file permissions and what not. I too would love an actual resolution to this issue.

I just got off the phone with Chris from support and he had me do the following (by the way....thanks Chris!!):

1. Go to the root of your Orion web folder and open the "Orion" folder, then open the file "custom.config"
2. Look for the IP address next to <proxy host= and you should see 127.0.0.1. Change this to the IP address assigned to your Orion site.
3. Open IIS Manager and then open the Properties of the Orion site and set the IP address you want it to respond on (same IP as what you set for proxy host in custom.config file. Close properties.
4. Then restart IIS
5. Rerun Orion configuration wizard, selecting Website only to modify, and then select the IP address you want Orion to respond from (as configured above).

After this, everything worked. I tried to get host headers to work and that just doesn't work. I'm certain the above would work for Ports as well as IP addresses. At least this is a solution to my problem. Hope it helps yours.

Just as an FYI to anyone who's checking this topic and has the same error we did, with regard to Application Monitor detailed views:

When we upgraded to 8.5 from 8.1, the installer didn't force us to upgrade the AppMon module to 8.5, as well. An oversight on my part, but the Application Monitor polling continued working just fine, but all the AppMon-related web views were missing or broken. We were able to fix it easily by downloading and running the AppMon 8.5 installer, without any un-installing. I had to go through and re-configure my Application Monitor views for the portal, but that was all.
