When interface is down need parent object in warning state

When an interface goes down on a server I want the parent object to be in the warning status. Currently I have the "Show child objects also" checked on the parent object it shows a red dot next to the parent object, but doesn't bring it up to the two parent maps. Currently I have the "Status Rollup Mode" set at default 'Show worst status.'

How do I make the object go into warning if any of the child objects are down? I'm running NPM 9.1 SP4.

FYI, we're working on the concept of "containers". It's going to a take a couple of releases to build this into core Orion, but the goal is to make this available in APM and NPM at the same time.

Change the Status Rollup Mode to Mixed rather than Worst.

Worst means it will display the status of the parent as the worst child device (if one is down, it'll show the parent as down).

Mixed means it will display a warning if there are mixed child statuses (some up, some down).

Thanks, I tried that and it's still giving the same result. Because the node isn't down, but a child interface in the node. The node and parent map are still showing green but the node has the little red dot next to it, indicating the interface is down.

Any other ideas?

Mixed/worst status is rolling up node status. Interface status does not change status of nodes. It's not something we're likely to change because the vast majority of users like it as is. The last time we changed anything about how we roll up status, I got booed on thwack, quite literally.

Thank you for your response. Couldn't it just be an option to have interface, services and any other child node objects change the status of a node? You would have to change the default options.

The reason I ask is because from a parent map it's giving a false "green" and just by visually inspecting you would assume everything is up...but it's not.

Count me in as well. In out shop, we look at high level maps. Having child interfaces update parent topology maps is critical for our long term success.

I have just submitted a support ticket for exactly this issue.

If I have an interface in one of our datacentres go down I would consider this to be of critical importance. But currently all I see if all is well.

I am still looking for a way to accomplish this. The groups that were added in the latest release will allow you to do this but that is not a very elegent solution to the use case.

I have more than 1000 network devices. To get these devices to show a warning status I have to go through and setup 1000 groups that contain the interface and the router.

I want the ability to say that "this" interface should cause the node it is attached to to change to a warning state.......or possibly even down state. On an interface by interface basis

Is this working for anybody in 10.4? I have web console settings,

Status Rollup Mode	Show Worst Status Mixed Status shows Warning	When showing status for a collection of nodes on the node tree or on a map, you can either show the worst status of the group (red if any of the nodes are down) or you can show warning (yellow) if some nodes are down and some are up.
Child Status Rollup Mode	Show Worst Status Show Worst Status (Interfaces only) Show Worst Status (Applications only) Show only ICMP Status	When showing the status of any single node on the node tree or on a map, you can show the status of the node and its children, node status and interfaces, node status and applications, or just node ICMP status.

but my object is still showing status green when one of it's interfaces is down (red).

Does anyone know if this feature was added?

I am sorting my "ALL NODES" window by:

1. Location

2. Status

One of my nodes has an interface down but location does not show any warning, it is solid green.

How can I get the location to show a warning if an interface on a node is down?

It does not seem to be anything that has been added since then.

I am currently also looking for this solution to get an interface down event to aggregate up to the group where the node is a part of.
