Network Discovery on NPM 10.1.3

Question

hello,

I've been tasked to discover any network devices that have been plugged in at remote sites without us knowing about it.

Initially I was going to run discoveries of the entire ip address space broken into chunks.

In each of my scheduled discoveries: I am not polling for VMware and i have turned down all the timeouts to the lowest count in hopes to speed up each discovery.

With these settings, it is scanning 30 ips every 6 seconds. At this rate, a /16 subnet takes approx 3.5 hours to finish.

We have subnet ranges all over the place. If I ran a 3.5 hour scan for each of our subnets, this will take me forever.

Is  this the only way I can do this? I

How can I do this the fastest way and ensure I have covered everything from 1.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255?

Like I said though, even if i didnt scan the entire space and just all our known subnets, i will be running discoveries for months.

how do i point the discovery to a seed router?

it only lets me specify by ip range or subnet.

Do i enter the ip of my seed router under specific nodes?

Two things...

First in 10.2 from what I hear (haven't got to install yet) the discoveries are much faster as the connectivity discovery is now a separate task so the speed has been improved.

Second, perhaps work off of a seed router...this will allow you to discover any subnets your routers know of (if your router doesn't know if it you can't get to it anyway so why waste the effort)  this should allow you to scan all of your live subnets.
