Orion Web Console Permissions Issue

Hello All,

I am working on a new install of Orion NPM and I am running into a problem with the web console. Hopefully you guys will have run into this before.

The particulars.

Server: Windows 2003 Standard 2003 R2 with SP 2 (32 bit) 4 Gigs RAM

DB: SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Cluster

Orion: 8.5.1 with SP2 installed. Clean install, nothing modified as of yet.

Initially, the web page would not load at all. This problem was simply a misconfiguration in IIS after install. I bound the NPM web site to a single address and changed the .url file to point to the proper DNS name instead of 127.0.0.1.

Afterwards, The Orion Web Console comes up, instructing to log in as Admin with a blank password. I do this and receive the following error:

Orion Website Error

An error has occurred with the Orion website.

Additional Information

You do not have permission to access this view.

Is there some permission that needs to be granted to the installation folder that the installer didn't take into account, for instance IWAM or IUSR? If so, does anyone know the exact permissions required? I would prefer not to give full access to the anonymous accounts.

Another issue perhaps?

William from Solarwinds tech support has given me a solution to this problem. Very quickly I might add. I was very impressed.

The web console installer appears to have set the incorrect views for the Admin user when it installed the web console.

The fix:

http://<your ip>/admin

Select Account Manager

Select Admin

Change Home Page View to Network Summary Home

Change Default Summary View to Network Summary Home

Submit

There appear to be other issues with default permissions, but I assume since I am able to edit the Admin account, create new accounts, etc. that I can repair them manually.
