How does Orion log negative input/output errors? Orion FUBAR?

I have to interfaces on a switch that I am incrementing errors. The problem is that Orion is logging it as negative transmit and recevie errors somehow.

 

 

 

Here's a sample chart

How the heck do you get negative counters?

Hi,

This can happen if the counter decrease on the SNMP agent which leads Orion NPM to compute a negative value.

A counter should always increase except when it reaches its limit and rolls back.

Because you are getting random negative values...I would suggest you to open a support ticket to further investigate the issue in order to know if the problem is that NPM computes badly the results returned by the device or because the device sends weird values.

The OID that needs to be reviewed are the following:

ifInErrors - 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.14.x

ifOutErrors - 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.20.x

where x is the index number of the interface having the negative value.
