Orion 10.1 (SP1) SNMPv3 Traps on Windows Server 2003

Hello all,

This is my first time posting here. I have Orion NPM 10.1 running on Windows Server 2003 and I'm having issues figuring out how to get SNMPv3 traps running. I have a security requirement that precludes the use of SNMPv1 or v2. I am currently polling all of my devices using SNMPv3, but I'm still having issues getting traps going.

I read an earlier post about using Net-SNMP to receive v3 traps but the installation required a file for the Net-SNMP Perl module that appears not to exist anymore.

Any suggestions or tips are appreciated.

First, welcome!

Second, it sounds like you want the Orion server to receive SNMPv3 traps correct? If yes, we leverage MSFT SQL Server and it currently does not support SNMPv3

Thanks for the quick answer.

Are there plans for SW to release their own SNMP trap collector that supports v3 traps? Right now I'm unable to use the trap features and it sort of puts a damper on what Orion could be doing for us. We do have a license for the engineer's toolset, but I don't think that trap collector supports v3 either correct? Even if it did will Orion read those traps and bring them into the DB?

Nothing I can give you a firm commitment to at this time. We are keeping an eye on this for sure
