Setup of snmp on Windows XP Service Pack 2 Machine

Question

I have recently installed Orion Network monitor Version 7.8. I have looked through your forums and enable snmp port 161 on the firewall, but i still cannot access the pc via snmp. Any ideas

If other people configure the node to be monitored, you will also want to verify that "Accept SNMP packets from any host" is selected, at least initially. After you get connected change the setting to "Accept SNMP packers from these hosts..." adding the IP address for your SolarWinds server. Another thing to check is spelling of the community name. Lastly check that the SNMP service is started on the monitored node.

If it's a Windows box you need to install and configure SNMP.

Install SNMP on the PC via control panel, add/remove programs, windows components.

Once installed, configured SNMP via control panel, services.  The settings are made in the properties of the SNMP service.

Did you remember to add a community string and enable the SNMP service on the node?
