Orion 8.1 Syslog Message to fire Alert?

I was wondering if anyone out there has ever came across the need to have a syslog message fire an alert so that it shows up as an active alert on the Orion home page? I work at a university and we have students that LOVE to bring their SOHO routers with them to school to have extra network jacks in the Res Halls. Someone always forgets to turn off DHCP on them and they start handing out private addresses on that VLAN. We have came up with a neat program that will detect rouge DHCP servers on different vlans and how to send its findings via syslog to Orion. Our problem is taking those syslog messages and creating alerts that show up in orion.... Any ideas???

You should be able to use the Syslog Viewer to create an Alert Rule. Also, syslog messages should be accessible from the web console by default if that's what you're looking for.

That is correct. If you want to receive alerts for syslog messages you will need to use the syslog viewer program. Once you start up the program, click on the Alerts/Filter rules and click the add new rule button. From there the setup is basically the same as configuring a basic alert.

BTW. If you are using Cisco switches in your Campus, you can enable DHCP snooping on all the access ports.
This will prevent the DHCP server running on the SOHO from receiving the requests from any other switch ports.
Basically DHCP replies are only allowed on the uplink port on your switch.
