Additional Poller thinks it is Primary too!!

I have Orion NPM 9.5 on my "primary" poller and the polling engine version of Orion NPM 9.5 installed on a separate server. I checked the Engines table and it shows both pollers as Primary.

Polling Engine #2 has no nodes assigned to it, so the primary poller is operating normally, but I don't understand how this can be.

Shouldn't the second poller be identified as 'Secondary" in the database?

I was actually looking at this just recently as part of another case. The second engine appearing as 'primary' isn't a problem. Currently the only distinction that is made in the serverType column is for Hot Standby engines.

Thanks for the reply Casey, but I was wondering why Orion would have been changed to designate an additional poller as "primary". I thought there could only be one true primary polling engine in the database.

Or is it that any poller is "primary" to the nodes that it is monitoring at the time?

Was I dreaming, or did it use to show additional pollers as "secondary"?

I have run into three clients in the last 2 years that had unwittingly installed the same copy of Orion NPM on two different servers (not realizing there is a separate part number for the Orion Polling Engine). This of course causes wild problems on the network. i used to look in the ServerType field in the Engines table to verify this had occurred. Was I correct in doing so, or should I only be looking in the PackageName field to determine the software that was installed on a poller?

I am confused. I was under the impression that an additional engine poller is just another install of NPM on a different server. Is this not the case? If so then what exactly is an additional poller and how do you actually install it and make it the 'secondary' poller?
