Distributed SW design
meethos
Has any large network company out there used SW in a destributed design. We are looking at placing 5 - 9 Orion servers throughout our network at major sites. Then creating or using a Central Web Portal access page to jump to specific locations. There are inherent issues with this I know but just wondering now if any one has or is using this design?
Thank you
Chris Petrina

Are you looking to implement separate databases at each location, or one central master DB?

Each site would have its own SQL database, we would look at doing something nightly that would dump all the data from those databases back to one GIANT central database. Perhaps TDW (Tivoli Data Warehouse). Be afraid yes we are currently using tivoli NV. We might also be looking at a single database for them all. Depending on the capability

meethos,
There are many companies who have implemented this type of design. Some as large as 60 seperate distributed servers. I would definately reccomend your initial approach... seperate databases and periodically roll-up the statistics you need to a central database. I would not dump all the data into a central database, just the statistics your need.

One of the things I was hoping to find here is a couple of those companies in or around Ohio. Re would like to see about contacting some about how they have the distribution setup and who well it is working for them. Something like a company visit.
And correct about dumping only the data I need from all the databases. Primarily the Performance statistics.
