I am hoping someone has done this already and can provide some direction.
I would like to create 3 seperate status maps.
1. Drill down map of our network at the infrastructure level (ie. our own gear - is it UP)
2. Drill down map of our critical customers (ie 24x7 support)
3. Drill down map of our standard customers
My issue is this... I don't want to redraw my infrastructure for each customer map so I would like to reuse my infrastructure map. This works out well.. here is my sticky point. Lets say I have a switch at a particular location, on which there are a mix of standard/critical customers. I have created an icon to represent each group, and attached them to the switch.
So.. If I'm drilling down thru my infrastructure, I'd like to be able to drill down to my attached customers and view their status, however I don't want the status of those customers to affect the status of my upstream maps.
I have created a seperate map linking my critical customers together to quickly identify which customers are down, and THIS is the map I want to reflect the status on. Is there any way to link to a submap and display the status without having that status affect my maps upstream?
I was also trying to provide a "Link to Parent Map", however that causes a bit of confusion as if one child map goes down, the parent map goes down, causing all the rest of the child maps w/ the "link to parent" to also go down...ala one big loop. Ideally, I would also like to provide this link to parent on my child maps without displaying the actual status of said map. My end goal is to link to a customer map directly from Custom Properties, and I'd like to be able to move UP the map tree from there.
Anyone have any suggestions, or ran into the same issue? I've played with the "show child status also" but can't really figure out what it does other than gives me a dot displaying the child status...which is the same status as my map anyway.
