Good post! I have the same concern. It doesn't look good.
As is typical with a new release, there have been a few bumps. In the next day or two, we will be releasing a hotfix that addresses the majority of these issues. .
Excellent! It really surprised me that Passthrough authentication and special characters in passwords got past all the beta testing. Just goes to show you that there's usually a big difference in how lab environments are set up as opposed to production environments.
Although we're having problems with passthrough authentication, it's not always a problem. Many of these issues boil down to permissions. For many customers who have having difficulties, the problem is that their is a permission shortfall around ASP.net when they upgrade. Their permissions were sufficient for ASP, but there's something missing for ASP.net. These issues are really tough to troubleshoot because there are so many places for the troubles to hide.
The password thing surprises me, too, though. With all the beta and internal testing, we should have turned that one up.
Waiting for the bugs to get worked out is always the smart move. Unfortunately with regard to upgrades we have had very few issues. There have been bugs but they are usually isolated and you work them out. This upgrade has the web interface down until further notice. Since i was the bright guy that went ahead and pulled the trigger im not smiling. (that much)
The truth is as someone else mentioned if your environment cant risk the down time the smart money is on waiting and perhaps consulting with Solarwinds to get a taste of the risk factor.
