Cisco Traps Vs Syslog ?
skaczkowski
All,
From my understanding it seems that when talking about Cisco devices (routers, switches, etc) you can either go with Syslog or SNMP Traps for devices messages. Is there an advantage with one over the other because it seems to me that you get the same messages out of both.
When considering Orion in the picture I can't see a compelling reason to use traps when you have a very nice and powerful Syslog package built right in..
Thoughts?

Hi Steve
One big reason for choosing Syslog over traps is that currently Orion does not support traps but as you say the syslog server is very powerful and will only get better with future versions.
It would be nice to be able to choose between syslog or traps as some devices do not support syslog but supports traps.
Hope this helps.
