Transferring Licenses

Hi all,

I am in the process of setting up two new servers for an Orion installation in order to improve performance and give us more disk space. We need to run the old platform while the new platform is being created, setup and tested. However I was just wondering what the best way to do this is.

I was thinking of doing the following: -

Use an Orion Demo license while the new installation is configured and setup, then once this has been done, use Orion License Manager to transfer the license to the new installation.

I was wondering how long the Orion Demo licenses last for or is there an easier way to run both installations while configuring the new one?

If the only option is to use an Orion Demo License and then transfer the old license over are there any criteria/ specifications that need to be met?

I would apprecaite a quick response to the above if possible, please.

Evaluation license is for 30 days for Orion. Are you starting a fresh database or want to point to the existing one?

I think you are on the right track with this process. Use the eval, then park the production license and reactivate on new system.

Thanks for the quick response.

There is still some...debate as to whether we use the old database or not but as they want to increase performance I can see it being a fresh start, new server, new database/s and new configuration of Solarwinds.

An entire estate to be added to Orion by one, maybe two people.

Is it possible to run the old and new platform, along side each other on the currently paid for license?

You can only have one production license key active at any given time. So what we typically tell folks is take a copy of your DB and move to another instance, setup an eval of Orion with that version, run an upgrade and continue to use the evaluation version till you decommission the current production server, at which time you can park the license and then active on the new server.
