Open IP Address Management Web Page in Orion

I've just started using IP address management from the Engineers and am exporting the results to a web page. What I would like to do is open this webpage in Orion from an option on the menu bar, the problem I'm having is that I can put the page into the IRL of the custom menu item but it opens in a new page.

Whay I would like is it to open in the current Orion page with the toolbars across the top?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Jon, Worked out how to do this yesterday with an extra tab along the top where you have the Network Performance Monitor and Wireless Network ones.... Just need to tidy it up a bit, but that shouldn't take too long. Chris

We came up with our own little web front end. This only took a couple hours and is good enough for now, but if SW doesn't come up with an IP Address Management solution for NPM, we are either going to have to write our own or purchase one already out there. I also don't think just pulling the data from the EE toolset is the way to go, I think NPM needs its own version. Features I would like to see so far:

Be able to add/edit/delete networks from browser
List all IPs in a network, not just ones that respond. That way IPs that are out there buy not reachable would still be listed.
Be able to set networks or even individual IPs to not be scanned or skipped. Again useful for IPs that are used, but not necessarily reachable. IE external IPs or DMZ IPs that I know are used but I don't need them pinged to see if they are live.
IPs stored with three 0s for each octet to allow proper ascending/descending sorting. Right now a sort shows up like
- 10.1.1.1
- 10.1.1.10
- 10.1.1.100
- 10.1.1.101
- .......
- 10.1.1.11
- .......
- 10.1.1.12
- .......
- 10.1.1.2
- and so on
The zero's I believe could be stripped behind the seens but would be stored in the DB for proper sorting.
- 10.1.1.1 --> 010.001.001.001
- 10.1.1.2 --> 010.001.001.002
- and so on
A couple custom text fields that a customer could label to their needs and use. IE I would like to not only have comments, but another field that I could add in where/how a server is backed up.
Search function as we have implemented.
Able to use SQL DB instead of access or MSDE for performance.

PS Also we have used [url="http://www.infragistics.com"]Infragistics to create our tabs within the webpage and also to create the web interface to the IP DB which gives us all the functions of navigation, drag/drop columns and sorting etc. A lot can be done with their product and we already had it for other needs, so it might be kind of pricey if you are just looking to add tabs as we did.

I need an IP Management solution that can run as a Windows service and not require someone being logged into a server and running the application. Ideally, I want a Windows service to scan my various subnets and report them with Orion integration. I've tried to get the application running as a service, to no avail.

We had a call with Denny the other day and this was one of the topics we brought up. He said that quite a few other people were interested in this as well. Sounds like they're hearing us so we'll have to wait and see what happens..

Ideally we'd like to see this as an addon package as it just doesn't seem to be a 'Core' function that everyone needs, unlike Alerting..

It's currently under going a complete rewrite so that it should be possible to add/remove subnets, mark addresses as used/reserved, change the polling frequency etc.

Ok, so I'm getting there slowly. So far I have:

Add a subnet
Delete a subnet
Ties into with Orion accounts (ie - a non-admin user can't add/remove/edit a subnet)
Node IP links to page for Node in Orion if it exists
Telnet, Web Browse and Remote Desktop links for each node - must have Orion Admin rights

The following are being worked on at the moment:

Show all/used/reserved addresses
Edit a subnet (name/address/mask/polling time)
Edit display settings (stylesheet) - must have Orion customise rights
Edit display settings (which db columns are visible) - must have Orion customise rights

The thing that is causing me the biggest problem is listing all the unused addresses as these are not entered into the database until either marked as used or reserved. There is a workaround to this (mark everything as reserved, then mark again as available) but this is messy..... Does anyone have something else they would like to see implemented? Chris

This sounds great Chris! Can't wait until you get it all working.

What I would like to see is the ability to have an option to generate all subnet addresses for Class A, B or C networks based on the subnet mask. As you know the current limitation is you must enter every subnet, one at a time. For example, if you enter Subnet Address of 10.10.10.0 and mask 255.255.255.252 with an added checkbox "Generate all subnets", all subnets within the 10.10.10.0 class C network would be generated...ex. 10.10.10.0, 101.10.10.4, 10.10.10.8.0, etc. The network address (ex. 10.10.10.8) would be used as the default Subnet name.

I wish I had a suggestion to the unused addresses issues but I don't but I'll give it some thought.

I might have an issue with this as the tabs look different in V8 so I'm not if the way they work has changed as well I'm going to hold off a bit until I get my Orion V8 beta copy.
