Basic Alerts problem in 8.5

This isn't terribly critical, so I am resorting to the forum for this rather than open up a ticket. It seems the upgrade to 8.5 has hidden all my Basic Alerts. The new Alert Manager (which looks great, by the way), does not show any of my previously configured Basic Alerts, but my Advanced Alerts are there. My Basic Alerts seem to keep triggering, though. The Alerts table shows them all in there. It seems that the new Alert Manager is not looking at the Alerts table, though.

Do I have to recreate my Basic Alerts in the new Alert Manager for them to show up? Once that is done, should I just disable the old alerts from within the Alerts table directly from the DB?

EDIT: Nevermind - looks like I can get to them from within the System Manager Alert interface.

after upgrading to 8.5 I noticed that all alerts basic/advanced setups were listed under the new Alert Manager.

In System Manager you can click ALERTS and it will still show the BASIC ALERTS / ADVANCED ALERTS tabs.

Right. That's not a change from 8.1. The standalone Alert Manager never showed Basic Alerts. But Active Alerts in System Manager always has.

I have part of the same problem. I upgraded Orion and moved it to a new server. None of my Basic alerts are listed. However, if I click on the button to Test Alerts, they are all listed in that drop down box. Where can I find them, how can I get them back into the list under Basic Alerts. This is critical for me, I have no alerting occuring because the System thinks it has no alerts configured. I will open a ticke with Solar Winds....but they don't respond well. So I am hoping that between this site and the support, the problem can be resolved today.

Appreciate any info anyone has.

Just a thought but verify which Engine ID these alerts are reflecting in the DB.

Below is a query you can run to update the alerts table in the database. Make sure you stop all services prior to doing this, as otherwise the database changes will not take.

First, go to Start -> Programs -> SolarWinds Orion -> Advanced Features -> Orion Service Manager and stop all the Orion services (you can leave SQL, IIS, and COM+ running).

Next, go into the database, select the Alerts table, right-click and choose Query.

Move the radial button to read/write.

Erase the "select" statement written in there.

Type in the following query:

Update Alerts
Set EngineID ='2'
Where EngineID ='1'

*NOTE: This assumes that your old polling engine was engine ID 1, and your new one is 2. You should be able to determine the engine ID by going to Start -> Programs -> SolarWinds Orion -> Advanced Features -> Monitor Polling Engines.

This will ensure the change takes place properly.

In order for the change to take, you may need to reboot the server. If not, make sure to manually start all the services again.

thanks for the info. When I looked at my polliing engine, it says Engine ID = 4. With regard to your suggestion, I would set the query to 4 not 2, correct?
