External Node Monitoring

These kinds of nodes are monitored strictly via ping right? I'm setting up to watch some external IP addresses to help alert me to Internet connection problems. Generally I'd like to monitor a couple of DNS servers and maybe two or three high visibility web sites. If the ping failes, I need to generate an alert to be sure one of us checks the connections.

You can add a node and select ICMP only monitoring in NPM.  Using APM you can watch some websites for example as well.  Can you expand further if I am not answering your question.
