Report on "alerted nodes"
martek01
Can anyone assist me with creating a report that lists the following:
Alert.AlertName (Alert.StartTime - Alert.EndTime)
AlertActions.Title
Nodes.Caption (Nodes.IP_Address)
Basically, I need all enabled alerts with start and end time, the actions that will be taken if the alert is triggered, & a list of nodes that are in the alert list.
I would also like to know about any nodes that are not in any alert lists.
Thanks in advance,
Evans Martin

Evans,
You can do this query with SQL Enterprise Manager.
A fellow Forum member - Ross posted the query recently in this post:

I tried the same, because the listing of alerts in Orion is just horrible. I believe they are listed after some invisible alertID. The total absence of any sorting of the alert definitions (for example by columns or by filtering) makes it a nightmare to find a specific alert (among our 250-300 definitions) or to make sure if you covered all your bases when setting up the definitions initially. To get an overview of our definitions we have queried the netperfmon database with another tool (Crystal Reports) which allowed us to do some reporting on definitions (by the way: the same goes for the poor handling of the suppresions).
Another thing really lacking here is replacing for instance e-mail recipients from multiple alert definitions. If a local IT-contact leaves, we have resorted to editing the database directly in the fields using the default SQL Enterprise Manager, which I really hate doing. There should be some bulk-search-and-replace functions available

...forgot one thing:
When an alert for some reason is acting up or something in the definitions need to be changed, it is so hard to find the actual alert definition as described above. Therefore, all of our alert definitions have the follwing variable set at the end of the text: ${Alert name}. That way it will be easier to find the "culprit" as you at least will know its name (you of course still have to find it in the completely unsortable list)

I ended up generating a table that breaks up all the nodes that are stored in the Alerts.NetObjects column into individual records and ties them to both the Alerts table & to the Nodes table using a scheduled Visual Basic program. Then I can easily run queries that tell me if an individual node is found in to be alerted and which alert category it falls into.
Kludgy but it works.
