How to disable language localization?

Hi,

I updated NPM from 10.3 to 10.4.1 last Friday. Today I had a deeper look into the new installed NPM and saw the language localization for German. In general it is a good feature but in our case we don't need it and I want to disable it or in other words I want to get all in English.

Let me give you some background:

NPM Server

--------------------------------------------------

Windows 2008 R2 -> Region and Language Settings

- Format: English (United States)

- Location: United States

- Display language: English

Client PC

--------------------------------------------------

Windows 7 -> Region and Language Settings

- Format: German (Germany)

- Location: United States

- Display language: English

RESULT in Solarwinds is that I have now a mixed view, some parts in German, most are in English.

Client PC

--------------------------------------------------

Windows 7 -> Region and Language Settings

- Format: German (Germany)

- Location: German

- Display language: English

RESULT in Solarwinds is that the most is shown in German.

Our NPM will be hosted in our central data center in Germany but will be accessed by approximately 30 countries in Europe. We are often using screenshots or sharing desktops to explain problems to our colleagues in Europe or to our WAN service provider. The first level support of our WAN service provider is located in India.

It would be important to have consistent view in English and not in national languages. Which kind of setting at server and application side would be necessary to disable the language localization?

Hi NetJoerg,

in your case I expect that your previously used NPM 10.3 was installed in English. Then the displaying language (you report is mostly German) depends on the language preffered in your Web Browser. NPM 10.4.1 supports German and Japanese localization. In case you need to display the website in English, you have to adjust your browser settings a bit.

IE: Internet Options - General tab - Languages - English language move to the top

Firefox: Oprions - Content tab - Languages - Move English to the top

Chrome: Settings - Show advanced settings - Languages - Move English to the top

Hi Honza,

Thank you for your fast reply but your suggestion will not fit our requirements.

We are talking about 30-40 users in Germany and additional 50-60 users in Europe. I am not able to change the browser setting to all users in Germany especially for only one internal web service. If SolarWinds is working on more language localizations like Spanish, French or Russian it will complicate our company wide communication more and more. Our company has English defined as standard language and all our international systems and applications has to be in English.

It must be a server side setting to change the language localization.

As comment to Firefox: I have only English/United States (en-us) and English (en) but I receive German "Schnittstelle" instead of Interface.

IE is using English/United States first, than German. Also there I receive "Schnittstelle" instead of Interface.

It seems to be quite weird issue. It seems to me that the poller is working in german mode. There are several more places that drive localization. Could you, please, check following.

Primary locale:
1. open regedit
2. Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SolarWinds\Orion\Core - suits to 64bit OS
3. Check LocalePrimary value - should be set to "en-US"
Language for non Unicode programs
1. Regional settings
2. Administrative tab
3. Language for non-Unicode programs - should be set to English

In case everything is correct and you still see German strings, please create support ticket - probably deeper investigation will be needed.

Hi Honza,

Both registry values are set to "en-us".

To find out why I get a mixed English-German view I will open a support ticket.

But in general it will not help me with my request to disable language localization. Is therefore also a support ticket necessary or more a feature request?
