Additional web server 401 authentication error

We are using the additional web server (v8.5) with pass-through authentication.
When connecting directly to the web page using the server name or ip address - the logon works no problem.

However, if we use a DNS alias for the server - the logon fails with a 401 authentication error.

Anyone seen this and have a solution?

I have raised a case for this (#18673)
I also suspect that it may produce the same issue on the primary web server (but haven't tested this).

I've never been successful getting the pass-thru authentication working when using a DNS alias, every since Version 6.
It prompts me for a local username & password instead.
I have to use the unqualified name of the windows server in order for pass-thru to work.
As per this post - make sure your alias is not being sent through a proxy server, as it will strip out the authentication.
