UnManaging /Adding/Changing Nodes from Web Console

Hi,

It would be quite useful if it was possible to have authorised users be able to add/change/unmanage a node from the web viewer instead of having to VNC/remote desktop to the server in order to make changes.

For one authorised technicians/engineers would be able to put a node into maintenance without having access to the server. This is also better for security as you dont really want all the people adding nodes being able to make changes to the actual server or application.

This has been requested quite often, and If I recall correctly, SW has stated that they are working towards being able to provide this functionality.

As far as alert suppression, I didn't like the idea of unmanaging a node, since you stop gathering statistics during this time.

I created alert suppressions (actually trigger conditions) using custom properties. I created AlertSuppression_SchedStartTime, AlertSuppression_SchedStopTime, AlertSuppression_SchedReason, which all need filled out in order to suppress the alert. These values can be entered via Custom Properties Editor, the Orion webpage if you edit a Node Details view and add Edit Custom Node Property, or a custom ASP page. If the LastPoll is within the start and end time and there is a reason entered (forcing people to put a description), then the alert will not be triggered. I have another alert that tells me when a device is in maintenance mode and displays the start, stop, and reason fields for the device. (This alert also has an action to stop and disable the SolarWinds Event Log forwarder if it is a Windows device). The reset action then sends an "out of maintenance mode" e-mail and clears these fields as well as starts the Event Log forwarder service. If you are interested, I can give you technical details.

If you don't mind sharing more details, I would be very very grateful. I was in the process of figuring out how to write a page that changes SQL on the back end to put the device into maintenance mode, but then I read Denny's post about it being stored in memory. So this is a great alernative and even better in some instances as I agree, I would like it to continue polling, but just not alert me when there is an issue.
