We run Orion on a multi-site network that has leased lines between sites that are routed via interconnect subnets. We've recently configured Syslog for recording HP Procurve switch logs in Orion and run in to a snag with the way the switches show up on the Syslog. Any remote switch that sends a log to the Orion Syslog via it's interconnect address only resolves it's hostname in the log, rather than it's FQDN. All other switches resolve correctly and all switches on the Orion Server LAN resolve correctly as well.
I've checked that both forward and reverse DNS entries exist for all the problem switches IPs (format "sw01.location.domain.com" - only "sw01" shows in the logs) for both their management and interconnect IPs and that Orion knows about all configured addresses including the interconnect ones. Using NSLookup from the Orion server shows that both sets of IPs resolve correctly to those DNS entries as well, even after doing an ipconfig /flushdns to remove the possibility of a problem DNS cache. I've also performed rediscovers on the problem switches to see if that would make any difference, but still no joy.
I've seen a few posts on here that talk about this issue and ensuring that all the DNS angles are covered, and as far as I can tell I've covered them. If anyone can shed any light on this, or at least give me any other ideas for where to look, I'd be very grateful!
