Validate button in Network Sonar

There is a validate button at the bottom of the screen for "Specific Nodes" within Network Discovery Wizard in Network Sonar.

I have been in the habit of pressing this button whenever we have to enter a list of IP addresses for hosts to be discovered.

Once the button is pressed, it will produce a green message indicating "Validation completed successfully".

Can anyone describe exactly what is being validated and how?  What would cause the validation to fail?

It has been a while since i had one fail, but I believe if you put a hostname and it can't be resolved it fails so it appears to me to just be doing a dns lookup.  I know that IP addresses always pass even if they don't exist on the network though.
