question about grouping
Seraphym
hi all !
i have a problem to which i can't figure out a solution :
we have about 800 cisco 836 routers, each placed in a different city. i added the custom properties zip code, telephone number and a location number ranging from 0001 to 0800.
what i want to do :
i want to group the devices starting with 0001 to 0100, 0101-0200, etc.
is this possible ? using the grouping feature doesn't really helps since it doesn't group the devices -> no similar field values to group...

Guten Tag Seraphym,
As you have said, using sequential/unique numbers for each router does not work for Grouping.
You must find some common trait amongst each group of routers.
I use
Region
(Province) &
Building
(a location code based on street address) &
Device Type
to group my devices.
This allows me to see the status of all devices in each Province at a glance.
Expanding a Province shows me the status of all devices at each location in that Province.
Expanding a location shows me the status of all devices of the same type, such as 2950 switches, 836 routers, Windows servers, etc.

hey network guru,
thanks for your tips. i solved in another way :
i just created a view with 3 colum layout with each colum containing three views containing different telephone prefix areas, ranging from 01-09.
as hopefully there are only a couple of nodes down at the same time, it's pretty easy to see in which region many nodes are down. works pretty good.
sometimes you have to think around the corner
